Ghost pirates! That’s all I needed to hear and I was in for this book. The first one (Grave Expectations) was awesome and this is a worthy continuation of the series. The characters are so deeply written, they have back stories and quirks that pull the plot together. Claire can see ghosts and her dead best friend, Sophie is sort of tethered to her so they have to stay close to each other…or do they? It’s weird but everything works within the story!
All the supporting characters are detailed and play their parts in the overall plot of private island vacation gone deadly awry….and ghost pirates! There is the ubiquitous storm, murder, light romance, buried treasure, and humor. The underlying plot of Claire/Sophie is well done and thought provoking. I mean, it can’t always be easy or fun to have your ghostly BFF around all the time, but what would you ever do without her?
The story is well told and you don’t have to have read book one to keep up but it was so good, I urge you to grab a copy of Grave Expectations when you get Displeasure Island. This was a quick read that wrapped all the clues up at the end, and dropped a few clue crumbs for book three. I was given a copy to read/share my thoughts. 4 stars!!
