Revenant X by David Wellington

Woo-Hoo!  Petrova and Zhang back in action on yet another terrifying planet!  I don’t know where David Wellington gets these book ideas but I hope they keep on coming–this is another space/horror that will keep you up all night reading and repeating “it’s just a story”!!

The colonists of Paradise-1 are dead, well, mostly.  Petrova has to figure out what happened, where are they, who or what infected them, and how to get the heck off the planet back to safety before they are taken over too.  What a wild ride.

I have said before that I don’t like ‘horror’ books but this series is so good that I tell myself to pipe down and start reading!  I was given a copy to read/share my thoughts but this one is a winner that I would have paid to read.  Grab your copy and get ready to hang on–4 stars.

The best part of these type books, is that it’s not just the usual tropes of “let’s take our family to space” or light sabers or cute creatures and funny robots. I love to read all of those books. For a different kind of story-Wellington (and the entire space/horror/ genre) takes a twist on what could really be OUT THERE…in the dark!! Nothing fun or funny. Some of the dialogue is hilarious but it’s the kind of humor you get when everything is going wrong and all the characters could die horribly in the next chapter.

The scary stuff is terrifying in a good way. Like the weird noise in the kitchen or I thought I turned that light off or did the closet door just move? All the spooky-creepy stuff your mind makes up to scare you at night when you are all alone in your safe home, is magnified by characters in actual space a bazillion miles from anything safe or home. If you can take the psychological scary stuff-put this on your “OTTER” read list immediately!!
