An Enchanting Case of Spirits by Melissa Holtz

3 stars. Widow Alyssa Mann is still missing her husband and hiding herself away from everything. When her friends insist on taking her out to celebrate her big 4-0 birthday, a tarot reading turns her life upside down; she wakes up the next morning able to see ghosts. And how do we get ghosts, gentle reader? MURDER- that Alyssa is going to solve and lay these pesky ghosts to rest so they will quit pestering her! There is a cute detective coincidentally living next door so of course his scepticism plays into the murder investigation. The plot took a bit to get started with too much angst over the big birthday. But it was interesting and had some fun twists on the usual ‘oh, I had a milestone birthday-now I’m psychic’ trope. The characters have back stories that work well with the story. The romance is low key and made sense. The ghost spooky woo-woo stuff was also low key but worked to move the story along. Several clues were dropped for the next book in the series. I was given an early copy to review-this is my own opinion.
